The Gifu Minami Lions Club invited Gifu University international students to minowashi Japanese paper making workshop in Mino City, Gifu, and food sample making workshop in Gujo City, Gifu.
Wednesday, October 28, 2015: Networking Event with Persimmon Growers
Gifu University international students were invited to inspect persimmon harvesting and storing site in Ono Town, Gifu. After their inspection, the students baked and tasted persimmon-flavored pound cakes. Their visit to the town gave them an insight into local persimmon production and growers' efforts for a quality harvest.
Saturday, October 17, 2015: Climbing Mr. Kinka
Gifu University international students climbed Mr. Kinka (Gifu City) with the members of Gifu City's Youth Organization. While enjoying the beautiful mountain sceneries, they picked up trash along the way to the mountaintop.
Monday, August 31 and Tuesday, September 1, 2015: Study Tour
Gifu University international students went on a tour to Nagano Prefecture and Nakatsugawa City (Gifu Prefecture). In Nagano, they joined river-rafting on the Tenryu River, and visited Hyakusogan medicine factory.
In Nakatsugawa City, the students strolled in the ancient post town of "Magome." On the last leg of the tour, the students observed scientific exhibitions and workshops at the Science World in Mizunami City, Gifu Prefecture.
Friday, April 17, 2015: Welcome Party at International House
A Welcome Party for new residents of Gifu University International House A & B was held at the house building. About 40 international students attended.
During the party, the participants took turns taking pictures, enjoyed delicious foods and played musical chairs. The event marked the beginning of residents' campus life at Gifu University and life in Japan.
Thursday, February 19 and Friday, February 20, 2015: Ski School 2014
Twenty-four Gifu University international students went to Meiho Ski Resort in Gujo City, Gifu Prefecture to practice skiing. Thanks to kind advice from instructors, even those who had no skiing experiences, skied smoothly on the second day of practice. The participants strengthened bonds by skiing together in a setting of deep, dazzling white of snow.
Sunday, December 7, 2014: Mochi Pounding and New Year Festival in Japan
The Kokusai Kouryu no Wa ∞ Kurono* hosted a mochi rice cake pounding ("Mochituki") event at the entrance of Gifu University International House. Thirty-two students tried pounding mochi, and enjoyed freshly made mochi cakes.
Making "mochi flower" ("Hanamochi", a kind of new year's ornament) was another major event on the day. Most of the students pounded mochi for the first time in their lives.

Saturday, November 29, 2014: Wadaiko Japanese Drum Concert & Beating Experience
The Soroptimist International* Gifu hosted an international cultural exchange event, "Wadaiko Japanese Drum Concert & Beating Experience," at Gifu Sogo Gakuen High School (Gifu City). Twenty-five Gifu University international students watched powerful Wadaiko performances demonstrated by the high school students. Gifu University students later joined a drum beating session. Friendly talks and games help international and Japanese students forge ties and build friendship.

Saturday, October 18, 2014: Climbing Mt. Kinka
On a beautiful autumn day, thirty-five international students and the members of Gifu City's Youth Organization climbed Mt. Kinka (Gifu City). While walking, they picked up trash along the mountain trail. At the top of the mountain, they reveled in a panoramic view from the Gifu Castle, and had a meal together.
Thursday, September 18, 2014: Pottery Making
The Gifu Minami Lions Club invited Gifu University international students to a program, "Experience Japanese Tradition and Culture in Gifu." Eleven students went to Toki City, Gifu Prefecture, home to pottery making where the students took a closer look at climbing kilns and tried pottery making. They sat on a potter's wheel and did pottery for the first time.
Tuesday, August 26 and Wednesday, August 27, 2014: Summer Trip 2014
Fifty Gifu University students went on a summer trip to Awaji Island in Hyogo Prefecture. They boarded a ship to see famous powerful whirling waves in the sea. They also experienced making kamaboko boiled fish pastes, visited the Otsuka Museum of Art. Because the hotel they stayed at faces the sea, the students enjoyed a rare moment of beautiful sunrise on the horizon.
Friday, June 27, 2014: Ukai on the Nagara River
The Soroptimist International* Gifu invited Gifu University international students to Ukai (cormorant fishing) on the Nagara River (Gifu City) in the evening of Friday, June 27. Eighteen students watched the traditional fishing from a viewing boat. Students soon opened up to one another over delicious dishes served on board.

Sunday, April 6, 2014: Cherry Blossom Viewing
The Kokusai Kouryu no Wa ∞ Kurono* hosted a cherry blossom viewing for Gifu University international students at Kurono Castle Park (Gifu City) on Sunday, April 6. Forty-six students and local residents played sports and games together, and had a meal under cherry trees in full blossom.

Thursday, February 20 and Friday, February 21, 2014: Ski School 2013
Gifu University international students went to Meiho Ski Resort in Gujo City, Gifu Prefecture to attend a ski session ("Ski School"). The school is designed for international students for mutual friendship, discovery of natural wonder and understanding of sports culture through skiing and staying at an inn. Twenty-one students attended the school. We believe that their memories of skiing in Japan will stay with them for the rest of their lives (Number of participants: 21).
Thursday, September 5 and Friday, September 6, 2013: Summer Trip 2013
Gifu University international students went on a summer trip to Ishikawa, Fukui, Gifu and Shiga prefectures. They visited places of historical and cultural interest in the four prefectures.
Sunday, December 9, 2012: The 18th Mochi Pounding
The Kokusai Kouryu no Wa ∞ Kurono* hosted a traditional mochi rice cake pounding event on Sunday, December 9 at the entrance of Gifu University International House Building A. Sixty-four international students and local residents in Kurono City (Gifu) joined the event, and enjoyed mochi pounding and mochi flower ("Hanamochi" ornament) making together.(Number of participants: 64)

Saturday, December 8, 2012: Exchange Event
The Soloptimist International Gifu hosted an international cultural exchange event at the Hotel Grand Vert Vizan (Gifu City) on Saturday, December 8. A total of fifteen people including international students from Gifu University, students from Gifu Shotoku Gakuen University and Gifu Shotoku Gakuen Junior College, and the member of Soloptimist International Gifu participated in the event. International students appeared in their national costumes, introduced their home countries. Dancing by geiko and maiko (traditional female entertainers in Japan) and wadaiko Japanese drum beating were performed on stage to present traditional aspects of Japanese culture to the international students.

Thursday, August 30 and Friday, August 31, 2012: Summer Trip 2012
Gifu University international students went on an annual summer trip to Wakayama Prefecture on August 31 and 31, 2012. Forty-four international students visited the Dojoji Temple, Sandanbeki Cave, Senjojiki (enormous ancient rock stretching into the ocean), Nanki Shirahama Beach and the Kongobuji Temple in Mt. Koya (registered as UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014) and other tourist spots.
