River Basin Research Center
The purpose of the River Basin Research Center is to conduct scholarly research in a broad array
of man-induced and natural phenomena relating to vegetation, river-water, and the ground and soil in
basin zones. The Center conducts world-class research activities and cultivates human resources
through a wide range of research and education programs. Additionally, the Center aggressively
promotes the 21st Century COE (Center of Excellence) Program "Satellite Ecology for Basin Ecosystem
Studies", "Rearing Program for Basin Water Environmental Leaders," and construction of an observation
network through the "Japanese Alps Inter-University Cooperative Project." The Center also strives to
contribute through academia to the sound development of the region's natural environment.
