The mission of the Center is to cultivate human resources that can dedicate to medical education and to promote collaboration and joint
research with medical education institutions in Japan and overseas. In April 2010, the Medical Education Development Center (MEDC) was accredited
by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology as the only Collaboration Center for Medical Education in Japan.
The Tutorial Education Division in the Center works to popularize and improve the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) tutorial approach, while the
Virtual Skill Division works to develop communication education with simulated patients and simulation-based education. MEDC also focuses on
education for medical professionalism, result-based medical education, computer-assisted learning, portfolio assessment systems, international
exchange, medical English education, and doctoral degree program for Medical Education. A Medical Education Seminar and Workshop is held four
times a year and is highly acclaimed as a national-scale teacher-training program.
