On Saturday, August 3, 2024, the 2024 Gifu University Faculty of Education Public Lecture and the Japanese Association of School Psychologists Gifu Branch Renewal Table B1 Relevant Training Session, 'Positive Behavior Support Practices in Special Subsidiaries and Suggestions for School Education' was held online, with 132 participants from across the country. Special subsidiaries are a type of company aimed at promoting the employment of people with disabilities and providing a work environment that is easy for them to work in, playing an important role in enhancing the diversity of society as a whole.

Positive Behavior Support (PBS) is a globally adopted approach aimed at improving Quality of Life (QOL) by eliciting and recognizing desirable behaviors and building a culture of mutual recognition and individualized behavior support. In Japan, its practices have been reported in various regions and schools.

During the lecture, Mr. YAMADA Yasuhiro from Chudenwing Co., Ltd. Higashishinmachi Branch, introduced the practices of PBS in special subsidiaries.

Through this lecture, participants learned to view people with disabilities as 'challenged individuals who face and take on work,' to not see what they cannot do as their problem but rather for companies to improve the environment and interactions, to think of solid support based on the principles of behavior, and for both the individuals and supporters to analyze difficulties, seek solutions, and build a support system while learning together.

Participants shared feedback such as 'the lecture was full of insights for school education' and 'the lecture demonstrated positive approach to solving difficulties found between society and individuals.' Questions were also raised about 'the growth of both the individuals and supporters or companies' and 'the challenges in expanding PBS in companies,' allowing for deeper understanding and mutual learning.

Gifu University will continue to engage in various activities aimed at realizing a society where diverse people can utilize their abilities to the fullest.
