Mr. AKAMATSU Ryoichi Reports International Competition Results and Commendation for Distinguished Service in Sports to President Yoshida
On Friday, June 6, 2025, high jumper AKAMATSU Ryoichi - a graduate of Gifu University Graduate School of Education and a research student at Gifu University Graduate School of Medicine, and he is currently affiliated with SEIBU PRINCE - visited President YOSHIDA Kazuhiro at the Office of the President along with his coach, Associate Professor HAYASHI Ryohei from the Health and Physical Education Course, the Faculty of Education at Gifu University.
Mr. Akamatsu participated in two international competitions held in Qatar this May, achieving an impressive second place in both events. Competing on par with world-class athletes, his performance marked a historic accomplishment, tying the highest-ever ranking by a Japanese athlete in these events. Mr. Akamatsu said to President Yoshida; "Following last year's Olympics, I've been able to maintain good results. I hope to continue this momentum and perform better in the major upcoming competitions."
In honor of their accomplishments at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, both Mr. Akamatsu and Associate Professor Hayashi received the prestigious "Commendation for Distinguished Service in Sports" from the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan. This award acknowledges not only Mr. Akamatsu's dedication to win, but also the invaluable contribution of his coach. Associate Professor Hayashi commented, "This award is a lifelong honor and a source of motivation to continue striving forward."
President Yoshida expressed his heartfelt support for Mr. Akamatsu, saying, "Even as you gain global recognition, you continue to think of Gifu University and take the time to share your achievements with us. We will stay committed to supporting you in every way possible. Please keep up the great work."
Mr. Akamatsu and Associate Professor Hayashi are currently training rigorously in preparation for the JAAF1 Athletics Championships in July and the World Athletics Championships to be held in Tokyo this September. Gifu University proudly supports their continued pursuit of excellence on the global stage.
