Gifu Future Center event Co-hosted with the Gifu Prefectural Government Childcare Support Division

On Monday, July 8, 2024, Gifu University, in collaboration with the Gifu Prefectural Government Childcare Support Division, held the 'Gifu Future Center1' under the theme "Thinking About 'Putting Children at Center, Gifu'." The 'Gifu Future Center' aims to solve complex regional issues through future-oriented dialogue among local residents. This time, a total of 15 people participated, including 10 students and 1 faculty member from Gifu University, 3 Gifu Prefecture officials, and 1 Hashima City Government official.

Currently, Gifu Prefecture is working on formulating the "Gifu Prefecture Children's Plan" (tentative name) based on the Basic Act on Children. Its major objective is to create a society where all children and young people in Gifu Prefecture can live happily. The Gifu Future Center on July 8 was positioned as the "Children as a Center, Gifu Future Conference," a forum for gathering opinions for the new plan. University students, who will be the stakeholders of the plan, and administrative officials responsible for child policies formed teams to discuss the realization of "Putting Children at a Center, Gifu."

First, Mr. NODERA from the Gifu Prefectural Government Childcare Support Division explained the Gifu Prefecture Children's Plan. Following this, participants exchanged opinions on what a "children-centered" society entails, the current situation and challenges, and specific measures to address these challenges. During the discussion, it was suggested that a children-centered society is one where "children have a place they belong," "can play with friends," and "can do what they want to do." Specific proposals for achieving this included "making national universities tuition-free," "taking the children's perspective," "engaging and greeting others," "increasing places where children can play," and "providing financial support."

Finally, each team discussed the future vision of Gifu Prefecture as a "children-centered" society and proposed visions such as "a society where each individual can realize their dreams," "everyone takes part in materializing the future vision and creates a bright future initiated by children," and "a vibrant society even when children become adults." It is expected that the outcomes of the discussion will be utilized in the formulation of the children's plan and initiatives.

Gifu University will continue to contribute to solving regional issues through the Gifu Future Center.
