Gifu University Holds the AY 2026 Entrance Ceremony and Welcome Ceremony
On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, Gifu University held the AY 2026 Entrance Ceremony at the Gifushin Forum in Gifu City. This year, a total of 1,356 undergraduate students and 700 graduate students were admitted to Gifu University, marking the beginning of their new academic lives.
During the ceremony, President YOSHIDA Kazuhiro delivered an address to the incoming students. In his message, he introduced the concept of "Art, Science, Humanity," encouraging students to deepen their academic studies while also developing their overall abilities as human beings. He stated, "What Gifu University has cherished throughout its long history is not only the pursuit of deep learning within one's chosen field of specialization, but also the cultivation of this kind of comprehensive capacity as a human being. Your university life will not be confined to classrooms and laboratories alone. It is also a time to devote yourselves to scholarship, to engage in dialogue with your peers, to connect with the local community and society at large, and, at times, to experience uncertainty and failure as you develop your own inner compass. Each of these experiences, taken together, will serve to refine and enrich your own Art, Science, and Humanity."
In the student pledge, Ms. NAOI Maika (School of Social Systems Management) took the stage as the representative undergraduate student, and Mr. HASEGAWA Fumiya (Joint Graduate School of Veterinary Sciences) represented the graduate students. Together, they solemnly pledged to "Learning, Exploring, and Contributing" during their studies at Gifu University.
Following the ceremony, a Welcome Ceremony was held to greet the new students. As part of this event, a special lecture was delivered by Mr. TAKENAKA Toichi, alumnus of the Faculty of Agriculture (now the Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences) and former Chairman of Astellas Pharma Inc. Mr. Takenaka encouraged the students, saying, "University is a place where you acquire the cultural and intellectual foundation needed to think about which path to take in life. Maintain your curiosity, learn proactively, and take action. Enjoy life on the path you carve out for yourself."
Additionally, during the Welcome Ceremony, student clubs introduced their activities, showcasing a wide range of extracurricular opportunities that will enrich campus life in the years ahead.
Gifu University sincerely hopes that all students who have taken this new step forward will open up their own futures through learning and experiences gained at Gifu University.
