This year marks the 20th anniversary of the "Tokai Heavy Rains" that hit the Tokai Region in 2000. Mr. Ikegami visits the stricken regions and looks back on the devastations happened 20 years ago. It was learned that there are many similarities between the latest July downpours in southern Kyushu Region and Gifu Prefecture, and the 2000 Tokai Heavy Rains. In the studio, by using a model, they explained some meteorological terms such as "Line-shaped rainfall system" or "Backwater effects" we often heard during the July rains. Gero City, Gifu Prefecture was also severely damaged by the July downpours while COVID-19 infections were still spreading. What were the problems emerged in time of residents' evacuation? Responses of Tokai Region to "Emergency Information on Nanknai Trough Earthquake" and some important reminders for evacuation by car, were also introduced.
