Gifu University Awards the Title of "Business Ventures Originating from GU" to Arrowsmith Inc.

Gifu University certifies companies as "Business Ventures Originating from GU" with the aim of returning research achievements to society. Arrowsmith Inc. (hereinafter "Arrowsmith") was newly certified as a "Business Ventures Originating from GU," and a title award ceremony was held on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.

Arrowsmith is a venture company originating from Gifu University that was established to bring a new treatment approach, phage therapy, to practical use for combating drug-resistant bacteria and intractable bacterial infections. Guided by its vision to "deliver safe and effective phage therapy to people around the world and create a future free from bacterial infections," the company has conducted multiple, large-scale fund-raising and is actively engaged in research and development of innovative therapeutic methods, building on the achievements of past collaborative research between industry and academia.

The award ceremony was attended by Mr. ANDO Hiroki, Representative Director of Arrowsmith and a former faculty member of Gifu University. The certificate conferring the title of "Business Ventures Originating from GU" was presented to him by President YOSHIDA Kazuhiro.

Following the award presentation, an informal discussion was held during which participants exchanged views on topics such as the process leading to research and company establishment, as well as future business prospects. President Yoshida commented, "We look forward to continued and expanded collaboration with Gifu University's research hubs, such as the Institute for Glyco-core Research (iGCORE) and the Center for One Medicine Innovative Translational Research Center (COMIT) as well as to the ongoing development of strong ties with the Gifu region."

With this certification, the total number of "Business Ventures Originating from GU" recognized by Gifu University has reached 13. Gifu University will continue to further promote initiatives--including venture support--to ensure that its research achievements are effectively returned to society.
