Gifu University School of Medicine Club Teams Win the 77th West Japan Inter-Medical School Athletic Meet

Gifu University School of Medicine Club Teams won the 77th West Japan Inter-Medical School Athletic Meet, held in Kagoshima Prefecture, and were honored at the closing ceremony on October 11, 2025.

The West Japan Inter-Medical School Athletic Meet is a long-established sporting event for medical students in western Japan, featuring summer competitions as well as winter ski events. In the 77th tournament, 44 universities participated and competed in 21 events. From Gifu University, teams such as track and field, soft tennis, tennis, badminton, swimming, soccer, table tennis, kendo, and skiing competed. Thanks to their strong performances across the competitions, the university achieved an impressive overall victory.

On January 20, 2026, nine students who performed notably in the tournament visited Dean USHIKOSHI Hiroaki of the School of Medicine to report on the competition. Ms. KISO Saki, a third-year medical student who won first place in the women's 100m hurdles, shared her reflections: "Last year, I finished third, which left me feeling frustrated. I used that experience as motivation and devoted myself to training every day with the determination that 'this year, I will win.' I am very happy that I was able to achieve the long-desired first place this year. Next year, I hope to gather members for the relay events as well and aim for further growth both individually and as a team."

Gifu University School of Medicine values the spirit of challenge and the collaborative abilities that students develop through extracurricular activities. We look forward to seeing even greater achievements from our students in the future.
