Certificate Award Ceremony for "ISO14001 Internal Environmental Auditor Training"
On Tuesday, November 11, 2025, Gifu University held the certificate award ceremony for the "ISO14001 Internal Environmental Auditor Training." The ceremony was attended by President YOSHIDA Kazuhiro, Vice President SUGIYAMA Makoto (Director of the Environmental Affairs Office), and Professor OHTANI Tomoyuki (Faculty of Engineering, the Chief Environmental Management Officer). Certificates of completion were presented to 21 students from Gifu University and Nagoya University.
Gifu University obtained ISO14001 certification in the Faculty of Regional Studies in 2003 and later expanded certification to the entire university, excluding the University Hospital. Since 2011, the university has conducted annual internal environmental audits by faculty, staff, and students to improve environmental performance.
Internal environmental audits are conducted by university auditors to verify that the university's environmental management system is operated in accordance with ISO14001 standards. Together with faculty and staff, students enrolled in the joint course1 "Management Theory (Management Systems and Auditing)" received training from internal and external instructors on the standard's overview and audit procedures, participated as auditors in actual internal environmental audits, and carried out audits from a student's unique perspective.
During the ceremony, President Yoshida handed certificates to the students who completed the training. He encouraged them, saying: "Students have deepened their understanding of the environment and pursued learning with high aspirations. I hope you will make full use of the knowledge and experience you have gained in your future activities."
In the subsequent discussion, students shared comments such as: "It was meaningful to audit faculties we usually have no contact with and learn about their initiatives," and "Learning about the university's environmental efforts gave me an opportunity to reflect on my own approach to environmental issues." The exchange of opinions was lively and constructive.
Gifu University will continue to provide opportunities for environmental education and practical experience, supporting students in becoming individuals who can contribute to their communities and society.
