From October 28 to 31, 2025, the world's largest student-led synthetic biology competition, the iGEM 2025 Grand Jamboree, was held in Paris, France. Among approximately 400 teams from over 50 countries and regions, Gifu University's student team "iGEM Gifu", which joined forces with Nagahama Institute of Bio-Science and Technology to form the team "Japan scinet," won the Gold Medal. Their project, titled "Preser VEG - Preserve Vibrant Edible Goods!!", proposed an innovative synthetic biology approach to reducing food loss, which earned high praise from the judges.

On November 18, Ms. MAKIMURA Miyu, a fourth-year student in the Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences and representatives of iGEM Gifu, visited President YOSHIDA Kazuhiro and shared her joy: "We have been working toward the goal of winning a gold medal, so I'm truly delighted. I believe our efforts to review and improve conventional approaches led to this honorable recognition."

President Yoshida offered words of encouragement and expectation:"Your high aspirations and constant efforts have led to new ideas. If you aim to excel in the field of biotechnology, this will be an invaluable experience."

Gifu University will continue to support students' challenges and growth.
