MEDC Hosts the 91st Medical Education Seminar and Workshop

From Thursday, May 29 to Saturday, May 31, 2025, the Medical Education Development Center (MEDC) of Gifu University held the 91st Medical Education Seminar and Workshop at the National Olympics Memorial Youth Center in Tokyo. This was the first event organized by MEDC since its renewal as a Joint Usage/Research Center for Medical Education (Phase IV). A total of 236 participants from across Japan attended, engaging in lively discussions and networking.

A new initiative introduced at this seminar was "MEDPark," a learner-centered program. Under the theme "New Qualifications and Competencies to Foster and Assess in Medical University Students", three sessions were held: "Learner-Centered Studying," "Assessment that Leads to Learning," and "New Qualifications and Competencies for the Future." Participants praised the program, with comments such as "It was much larger in scale than expected, and the participatory learning was excellent." Additionally, 47 participants from the concurrently held 26th Training Program for Academic Affairs Staff of National, Public, and Private Medical and Dental Schools joined MEDPark, contributing perspectives from their respective roles. One participant noted, "It was very interesting to see faculty and administrative staff actively exchanging views," highlighting the value of collaboration among faculty and administrative staff in addressing challenges in medical education.

The workshop sessions also featured nine topics related to medical education and research, fostering active exchange of ideas. The next 92nd Medical Education Seminar and Workshop is scheduled to be held at Kagoshima University's Sakuragaoka Campus (Kagoshima Prefecture) on Thursday and Friday, November 27-28, 2025. Registration will open in early August via the MEDC website. We look forward to welcoming participants from all over Japan.
