Tokai National Higher Education and Research System and Nippon Zenyaku Kogyo Co., Ltd. have Signed a Comprehensive Industry-Academia Collaboration Agreement.
On Thursday, January 9, 2025, Tokai National Higher Education and Research System (THERS) and Nippon Zenyaku Kogyo Co., Ltd. (Fukushima Prefecture) signed a comprehensive collaboration agreement to accelerate the innovation of drug discovery and advanced medical research through the concept of 'One Medicine' (the idea that diseases in humans and animals are interconnected) and the realization of 'Sharing Medicine (One Health).' This collaboration involves the Center for One Medicine Innovative Translational Research (COMIT), which is a joint initiative between Gifu University and Nagoya University.
The purpose of this agreement is to take advantage of the advanced research outcomes, cutting-edge information, and domestic and international networks of both parties through comprehensive collaboration, thereby promoting efforts towards social implementation.
The signing ceremony was attended by Mr. FUKUI Toshikazu, President of Nippon Zenyaku Kogyo, THERS Chancellor MATSUO Seiichi, President YOSHIDA Kazuhiro of Gifu University, and President SUGIYAMA Naoshi, President of Nagoya University. During the ceremony, President Fukui expressed his high expectations for the future development of the collaboration, stating, "With a perspective of moving from Japan to the world, we aim to create products that will expand into the global market. Under this new collaboration agreement, we will continue putting greater efforts into our activities."
Chancellor Matsuo remarked, "This agreement will serve as a significant driving force for COMIT to develop as a center representing our country and attain world-class research results in the future." President Yoshida shared his enthusiasm, saying, "We aim to integrate medicine and veterinary medicine under the perspective of 'One Medicine' and establish a new academic field called 'Sharing Medicine.'" President Sugiyama added, "Within the comprehensive agreement, we expect to identify common goals sought by Nippon Zenyaku Kogyo and COMIT as the starting point for joint research and take advantage of each other's strengths to accelerate social implementation."
Under this collaboration agreement, COMIT and Nippon Zenyaku Kogyo plan to advance further research and cooperation towards realizing a society that promotes the well-being of both humans and companion animals.
