A Special Lecture on 'Brain and AI Alignment with Dr. MOGI Kenichiro'
On Wednesday, November 13, 2024, a special lecture titled 'Brain and AI Alignment' was held at OKB Gifu University Plaza on campus, featuring neuroscientist Dr. MOGI Kenichiro as the speaker. This event was co-hosted by the Gifu University Organization for Promotion of Glocalization (GU-GLOCAL), the Artificial Intelligence Advanced Research Center, and the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering. Approximately 45 students, faculty, staff, and business representatives attended in person, and many others participated online through a live stream from Nagoya University.
In the lecture, the theme of "how to define intelligence" was first addressed, discussing the role of AI in reflecting human goals and values. The concept of "Ikigai," which is deeply rooted in Japanese culture, was a central theme of the lecture. The idea of "Ikigai risk," which emphasizes the need to use AI in a way that does not diminish human purpose and fulfillment, was introduced. The lecture explored how AI technology can harmonize with the values and goals of human society. Additionally, the direction of AI research leveraging Japan's unique cultural background was mentioned, highlighting the need for innovative approaches with international competitiveness.
After the lecture, Dr. Mogi visited the Faculty of Engineering and exchanged opinions with Professor UEMATSU Yoshihiko, Dean of the Faculty, Professor KATO Kunihito, and Professor TERADA Kazunori about cooperation in education and research in the field of AI at Gifu University.
Gifu University will continue to actively hold lectures and events to broaden the knowledge of students, faculty, staff, and local businesses. This lecture is also available for viewing on Glocal Lesson.
