Gifu University Co-Hosts an International Conference on Climate Change with Sebelas Maret University, Indonesia.
The United Graduate School of Agricultural Science (UGSAS, Doctoral Program) at Gifu University co-hosted the "10th International Conference on Climate Change 2024" (ICCC) with Indonesia's Sebelas Maret University, Indonesia from Wednesday, November 6th to Friday, November 8th, 2024, at Gifu University. This year's theme was "Climate Change, Plants, and Health," and the conference was held in a hybrid format, both in-person and online.
At the ICCC, the opening address was given by Professor HIRAMATSU Ken, UGSAS Dean, followed by a keynote lecture by Professor MURAOKA Hiroyuki from the Center for Environmental and Societal Sustainability (CENSS) on long-term forest ecosystem research under climate change. The lecture explained the impact of climate change on forest ecosystems based on over 30 years of research at the CENSS's Takayama Field Station, Gifu Prefecture. Additionally, there were invited presentations by former UGSAS Dean SENGE Masateru and former visiting professor CHIHARA Eiji. A total of 56 participants attended in person and 66 online, sharing diverse insights from an international perspective over the three days.
In parallel with the ICCC, the "IC-GU121 Roundtable Meeting 2024" was held. Twenty-five liaison faculty members from 21 universities in nine countries attended both in-person and online, engaging in lively discussions about the introduction of international joint degree programs (cotutelle programs) in doctoral education.
On Thursday, November 7th, the "UGSAS-GU Poster Presentation on Agricultural Science 2024" was held. Twenty-eight students presented their research findings, and four students received the Best Presentation Award based on votes from attendees.
On Friday, November 8th, some participants volunteer to visit Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture to tour the Takayama Field Station and observation tower of the CENSS. The participants were divided into two groups for the tour, providing a valuable opportunity to learn about the research site while experiencing the local natural environment firsthand.
This conference was an important step in sharing knowledge on the global issue of climate change and fostering the next generation of researchers through multilateral collaboration.
Gifu University will continue to deepen international cooperation and contribute to building a sustainable future.
