"ISO14001 Internal Environmental Auditor Training Course" Completion Certificate Awarding Ceremony

The "ISO14001 Internal Environmental Auditor Training Course" Completion Certificate Awarding Ceremony was held both online and in-person on Thursday, November 21, 2024. The ceremony was attended by President YOSHIDA Kazuhiro of Gifu University, Vice President SUGIYAMA Makoto (Director of the Environmental Affairs Office), Professor SHIINA Takahiko (Environment Manager, the Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences), and others. A total of 15 students from Gifu University and Nagoya University were awarded the certificate in AY 2024.

In 2003, the Faculty of Regional Studies became the first faculty at the university to obtain the ISO14001, the international standard for environmental management systems. Currently, all facilities within the university, excluding the University Hospital, have obtained ISO14001 certification. Since 2011, university staff members and students have been conducting ISO14001 internal environmental audits annually to improve the university environment. Starting this year, Nagoya University students enrolled in the collaborative course1 "Management Theory (Management System and Audit)," between Gifu University and Nagoya University are also participating in the internal audits.

During the audit, internal auditors confirm whether the university operates in accordance with ISO14001 standards. Before the audit, students and staff members received briefings on ISO14001 and basic training from experts invited from both on and off campus. They then conducted a campus-wide audit and summarized the results from their perspectives on protecting the environment.

At the ceremony, President Yoshida handed a certificate to each student. He offered the following words of encouragement: "During this internal environmental audit, many opinions were expressed by students from Gifu University and Nagoya University, making it a thorough and fulfilling audit. I hope that the insights gained through this internal environmental audit will be applied to their future career paths."

In the subsequent opinion exchange session, students provided positive feedback, such as, "I am very happy to know the university's strong commitment to the protection of the environment," and "I want to apply what I have learned during the training and audits to my daily life in the future."

Gifu University will continue to provide opportunities for environmental education and practice, supporting students in becoming individuals who can contribute to the community and society.
