Gifu University Student Teams who Created AI Idea Projects have Obtained "AI Specialist Certification."
As part of the compulsory course activities of "Information Engineering Experiment III" for about 70 third-year students in the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering, the Faculty of Engineering at Gifu University, three student teams have obtained NVIDIA's AI certification "Jetson AI Specialist." This certification is provided by NVIDIA, a major semiconductor manufacturer, and proves practical skills in AI technology.
In the "Information Engineering Experiment III" course that focusses on practical AI education, each student is provided with a small computer equipped with AI in 2023. Students are working on developing various AI technologies such as image processing, robot control, and voice recognition. While deepening their specialized knowledge of AI, students design and implement idea projects using AI in teams and present their results. Ultimately, students aim to obtain the certification. The course was introduced as an example of distinctive AI-related research and development efforts in the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's 2024 White Paper on Science and Technology Innovation.
Certified AI Idea Projects
- "Smart Trash Can: A Trash Can That Spits Out Trash"
Mr. HAYASHI Hayato, Mr. TATEIWA Yudai, and Mr. TAMAKI Junya - "Pseudo Cat: A Training Robot to Uncover Your True Nature"
Ms. TAKAGI Mibuki, Ms. MITSUNAKA Kanae, and Ms. GOTO Shiori - "Crossing Assistance System for the Visually Impaired with Jetson Nano"
Mr. Seong Minsik, Mr. FUNAHASHI Natsuki, and Mr. SHIMAZU Yukitaka
After the certification, students shared their thoughts, saying, "We were able to design and implement AI idea projects from scratch, which helped us hone practical skills," and "Seeing our AI idea projects actually work was inspiring and made us realize the potential of AI even more." Professor KATO Kunihito from the Faculty of Engineering, who is the instructor for the course, commented, "There are very few people in Japan who have obtained the certification, so it is a remarkable achievement for Gifu University students to have earned it. I hope students will continue to strive to become AI specialists."
Gifu University continues to focus on practical AI education and develop human resources who can contribute to the region and society in the future.
