The 2nd Gifu University Homecoming Day 2024
On Saturday, November 2, 2024, the "2nd Gifu University Homecoming Day 2024" was held. This initiative aims to promote exchange and deepen collaboration among all stakeholders of Gifu University. We expect that it will contribute to establishing sustainable relationships and mutual support among alumni, current students, and faculty members. To make the 2nd Homecoming Day more fulfilling and to encourage greater alumni participation, multiple events were held in the morning for the entire university and in the afternoon for each faculty.
In the morning session, a total of 310 people participated at the University auditorium and OKB Gifu University Plaza on campus. Additionally, more than 130 people watched the simultaneous YouTube broadcast.
First, President YOSHIDA Kazuhiro reported on the university's trends, followed by an award presentation by the Alumni Association President to Mr. SASAKI Yoshihiro, a graduate of the Faculty of Engineering and President and CEO of Hoyu Co., Ltd1.
Next, Mr. Sasaki gave a special lecture titled 'Bringing Excitement and Vitality to People Worldwide with Hair Color!' His lecture covered various topics, such as the impact of hair color on the mind of people and the relationship between Gifu University and Hoyu Co., Ltd., which garnered high interest from the participants due to its relatable content.
Following that, a special academic lecture titled 'Wide-Gap Semiconductors Changing Society' was given by Professor AMANO Hiroshi2 of Nagoya University, who won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2014. He spoke about current efforts in human resource development and research, as well as unique anecdotes from the Nobel Prize announcement. In a relaxed, friendly atmosphere, his lecture occasionally invited laughter from the audience.
Participants expressed that they were deeply impressed by the valuable talk given by the two distinguished speakers.
In the afternoon session, each faculty organized a wide range of activities, including academic lectures, laboratory tours, panel exhibitions, and social gatherings. Despite the bad weather, 514 people participated, providing a venue for alumni, students, and faculty members to interact and develop mutual friendship.
The Gifu University Alumni Association will continue its activities with the aim of strengthening collaboration with all stakeholders of Gifu University.
