Professor MAKI Hideki of the Faculty of Regional Studies, Gifu University, has published "The Linguistics of Hyakunin Isshu."

My specialty is linguistics. "Meeting and parting, was it a dream or reality?" (Murasaki Shikibu (c. 973 - c. 1014 or 1025)) It's been 1,000 years since Hyakunin Isshu was compiled.

The book "The Linguistics of Hyakunin Isshu" aims to elucidate the characteristics of ancient Japanese based on the "Hyakunin Isshu," a classical Japanese anthology consisting of one hundred waka poems by one hundred different poets. In them, you might find your own answers to the peculiarities and origins of the Japanese language. The key concepts are "agreement: person, conjugation, kakarimusubi (a type of syntactic dependency), and movement." Korean, Sinhala, Tamil, Turkish, Bislama, and Mongolian also make an appearance.
