On Monday, September 9, 2024, eleven students and faculty members from Gifu University and Nagoya University, who are involved in environmental activities and the creation of environmental reports, held an inquiry guidance session titled 'Let's Read the Environmental Report' at Gifu Kita Senior High School in Gifu City. This guidance session aims to increase high school students' interest in environmental issues through reading environmental reports and to inform them about the environmental activities and educational research conducted at Gifu University and Nagoya University.
The Environmental Report of the Tokai National Higher Education and Research System, whose constituent universities are Gifu and Nagoya, is compiled and edited by an editorial committee consisting of students and faculty members from both universities. It highlights the educational, research, and social contribution activities related to the environment at both institutions.
During the guidance session on September 9, several student projects and laboratory interviews, which also involved the editorial committee members, were presented. Additionally, draining the 'Bangaike Pond' on campus called, the 'Kaibori Experiment' to improve its water quality, was introduced. This experiment is part of the 'Bangaike Pond Restoration Project' undertaken by the Gifu University environmental circle, G-amet,' which focuses on biodiversity conservation and nature restoration. Furthermore, the 'Dormitory Supplies Reuse Market,' was presented. This event, organized by the Nagoya University environmental circle, Song of Earth, promotes reuse by receiving furniture and appliances from graduates and passing them on to new students. After the presentations, high school students asked many questions about the activities undertaken by the university students, indicating a high level of interest in environmental conservation activities. The guidance session provided an invaluable opportunity for high school students to learn about the initiatives at Gifu and Nagoya universities and to spark their interest in environmental initiatives at the university level.
Gifu University will continue to deepen its collaboration with the local community and the next generation, promoting educational and research activities aimed at realizing a sustainable society.
