Meeting with Representatives of Senior High School Principals in Gifu Prefecture

On Tuesday, August 6, 2024, Gifu University held a 'Meeting with Representatives of Senior High School Principals in Gifu Prefecture.' This meeting has been held annually since 2006, with the aim of exchanging opinions on the current situation and challenges of high schools within Gifu Prefecture and Gifu University, and deepening understanding between senior high schools and the university.

On August 6, Gifu University welcomed 18 principals, including Mr. ONO Satoru, Chairman of the Gifu Prefecture Senior High School Principals Association ('Principals Association') and Principal of Ogaki Kita High School (Ogaki City). From Gifu University, President YOSHIDA Kazuhiro, Vice President MASHIKO Norifumi, Vice President SUGIYAMA Makoto, and 17 other executives and staff members participated.

At the meeting, President Yoshida first explained the current situation and policies of the Tokai National Higher Education and Research System (THERS) and Gifu University. Next, under the theme of 'Current Status and Challenges of Senior High School-University Collaboration,' Chairman Ono explained the ongoing situation and challenges of senior high schools, as well as future collaboration between the region and the university. Additionally, students from Gifu University who took the 'Space Engineering Seminar,' which is offered as part of senior high school-university collaboration initiatives, reported on what they have learned from the seminars and what they are studying at the university. Throughout the meeting, many opinions and requests were expressed by the Principals Association, including expectations for senior high school-university collaboration and entrance exam reforms, considering the environment in the field of education today.

After the meeting, a tour and overview of the newly built 'OKB Gifu University Plaza' facilities were provided for the visiting principals. Moreover, there was a report on the activities of the student 'Startup Club (Business Idea Creation Group).' This included an exchange of opinions and questions about university student community activities and future action plans.

Gifu University will continue to actively interact with senior high schools and develop mutual understanding, thereby reinforcing further collaborative efforts.
