GIFU CCCS has been jointly operated by Gifu University and the Gifu Prefectural Government.

The Japan Lifelong Learning Center Conference is held every year by the Practical Social Education Research Center of the National Institute for Educational Policy Research, and Japan Lifelong Learning, Practical Social Education Center Association2. Its major objectives are to assemble officials from lifelong learning centers across Japan for discussions for current educational or social issues with an eye to promoting collaboration among officials at lifelong learning centers. On May 26, the activities of GIFU CCCS were acknowledged as one of the pioneering examples of collaboration between university and community.

Under the theme, "Reality of lifelong learning centers working for the promotion of the wellbeing of community," GIFU CCCS overview was presented. It was followed by the activity reports on agendas below:

1. Development and securing of human resources (fostering coordinators for school-community collaboration, providing follow-up training)

2. Long-and-short term support programs for local municipal governments (advice from academic staff, hosting lectures and seminars)

3. Workshops for academic and administrative staff (to promote understanding about school administrators' assignments and duties)

4. Proper deployment of student volunteers (through collaboration with the social educator course of Gifu University)

In the following questions and answers session, the participants exchanged opinions over substantial school-community collaboration, educational effects from such collaboration, post-training survey, and people's motivation to attend training. At the conference, activities and future visions of GIFU CCCS were shared among the participants. In addition, there was a special mentioning of the advantage of GIFU CCCS having a sustainable support framework for school-community collaboration that incorporates the viewpoints of university and government.
