On November 8, 2022, Gifu Renewable Energy System Research Center, Gifu University hosted a seminar titled, "Aiming for Environmental Friendly and Carbon Neutral System of Desalination and Water Treatment" at "2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference or Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (COP27)" held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.

The seminar began with an opening speech by Director UEMIYA Shigeyuki of the Center and introduction of the Center's activities. It was followed by a speech of Dr. ISHIKAWA Kaoru, former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Egypt who spoke about water pollution problems of River Nile and successful water purification programs jointly implemented by Japan and Egypt.

Other guest speakers include:

- Dr. Maria R.H. Takeuchi, Project Manager of Gifu Renewable Energy System Research Center (speech theme: problems of government and academia collaboration projects and strong leadership to attain goals)

- Dr. Khaled Ali Mohammed Ali from South Valley University, Egypt (speech theme: introduction of current situations in Egypt and causes for water problems

- Professor ITAYA Yoshinori, former director of Gifu Renewable Energy System Research Center (speech theme: desalination system for carbon neutrality), and

- Professor OHGAKI Hideaki from Institute of Advanced Energy, Kyoto University (speech theme: water treatment by using environmentally-friendly fine bubble technology

After the seminar, many attendees from overseas requested a distribution of the seminar materials, and attendees from Japan expressed their strong hopes for an opening of a similar seminar in Japan conducted in Japanese.

With our hosting the seminar at COP27 as an important milestone, we will continue disseminating our goals and missions to people of all walks of life around the world.
