Gifu University & Juroku Bank Ltd. Collaborative Project, "Kururu Seminar 20th Anniversary Special Seminar

The Center for Collaborative Study with Community (CCSC), Gifu University and Juroku Bank Ltd. co-hosted "Kururu Seminar 20th Anniversary Special Seminar" under the title, "Sports, Life and Energy" on Tuesday, January 18, 2022. Ms. Akemi Masuda, a sport journalist (Professor of Osaka University of Arts, President of Japan Para Athletics, Board of All Japan High School Athletic Federation, and member of Japanese Para Sports Association) was invited as a keynote speaker. Ms. Masuda is well known for her unique reporting of athletes who compete track and field competitions. The seminar was conducted both in-person (at Gifu University Satellite Campus, Gifu City) and virtual and was attended by more than 100 people of all ages.

Gifu University and Juroku Bank have been hosting the "Kururu Seminar" since October 2001 for senior citizens aged 60 and older in order to promote the campaign, "active all through life" and invigorate local communities by offering citizens opportunities for lifelong learning programs, "recurrent" educational programs, etc.

The seminar is part of Gifu University and Juroku Bank Business-Government-Academia Project, and this year marked the 20th anniversary from its commencement. In the seminars, annually 25 lectures are open to the public focusing on history, nature and health. As of December 2021, a total of 21,000 people attended the lectures. "Kururu" is a logo for the seminar to encourage citizens to remain socially proactive through "listening," "looking" and "doing" well.

Ms. Masuda spoke about her experiences at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics, sporting events held at home and abroad, etc. She underscored the importance of enjoying anything by quoting a passage from the Analects of Confucius and also mentioned indispensable roles of energy and electricity. The audience was listening to her speech with great interest.

CCSC and Juroku Bank continue to cooperate and work harder towards lifelong learning for citizens, dedicate to "recurrent" education, regional revitalization and endeavor to reach Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through "Kururu Seminars."
