Gifu University's Response to Foreign Matter found in Moderna's COVID-19 Vaccine Vials

On Thursday, August 26, 2021, Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited announced the decision to suspend the use of certain lots of Moderna's COVID-19 Vaccine for intramuscular injection because it received reports of foreign matter in unpunctured vials for a particular lot. It was found that the Moderna's Vaccine being suspected of contamination with foreign particle matter was administered to GU students and staff from August 9 through 20 as part of the workplace vaccination campaign.

Period of Vaccination: From Monday, August 9 through Friday, August 20, 2021

Number of Vials Used: 600 (approximately 6,000 doses)

In time of vaccinations, pharmacists checked all the vials before every injection, and no foreign particles or any abnormalities were suspected, and no health hazards have been reported so far stemming from these injections.
