Meeting with Senior High School Principals 2021

Gifu University hosted "Meeting with Senior High School Principals 2021" on Thursday, July 29, 2021. Started in 2006, this annual meeting serves as an important venue for opinion-exchange and promotion of mutual understanding between Gifu University and senior high schools in Gifu Prefecture.

On July 29, fourteen principals represented by Mr. Tatsuya Ishida, Chairperson of Gifu Prefecture Senior High School Principal Association (principal of Gifu Senior High School) attended the meeting. Fifteen university members of the board including President Hisataka Moriwaki, and Professor Hirokazu Fukui (Vice President (Planning, Academic Affairs, Evaluation and Fund), also serving as Director-General of the Organization for Promotion of Higher Education and Student Support (ORPHESS)), and the university professors welcomed them on campus.

President Moriwaki first spoke about the current status and policies of the Tokai National Higher Education and Research System and Gifu University. This was followed by Mr. Ishida's explanation on a new curriculum guideline for senior high schools and revisions of school subjects. In addition, a presentation was made by Professor Mutsuki Higo, Dean of the School of Social System Management regarding a "new theory of management" and human resource development that the school focuses on for the first-year students (the school opened on April 1, 2021). Later, with Professor Mamoru Koketsu, Vice Presidential Advisor (ORPHESS Vice Director-General) as a moderator, the university members and the principals held discussions on such topics as Gifu University's and senior high schools' responses to COVID-19 to secure the safety of students in classes, entrance examination information, and future challenges, etc.

During the discussions, high expectations were expressed toward Gifu University by the association members, and active opinion exchange continued for some time. They also confirmed the contents of revised school subjects under the new curriculum guideline, and shared a sense of urgency to tackle issues related to enrollees and the new curriculum starting in 2025.

After the meeting, the association members were invited to join a campus tour for the Intelligent Production Technology Research & Development Center for Aerospace (the Aerospace Research and Education Hub of the Tokai National Higher Education and Research System). They observed the latest equipment and research labs related to aerospace science.

The "Meeting with Senior High School Principals 2021" made another significant milestone for university and senior high schools in forging a stronger tie with one another.
