The Medical Education Development Center (MEDC), Gifu University hosted "The 78th Medical Education Seminar & Workshop (S&W) online at Gifu University on Friday, January 22 and Saturday, January 23, 2021. A total of 297 people attended eight virtual workshops, panel discussions and special webinar for two days.

Firstly, at e-Workshops, the participants exchanged their views on the following themes; mental reflections by using Lego ○R, cross-sectional alliance, on-site medical training, educational philosophy, medical checkups, and instructions and assessments of English Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE).

At e-Panel Discussions, the participants engaged in discussions for education for pediatricians. Lastly, in the special webinar session, Professor Yasuyuki Suzuki of MEDC gave his last lecture before 217 listeners coming on and off campus. Under the title, "From Pediatricians to the World of Medical Education," Professor Suzuki spoke about his lifetime mission of "seeing patient's body as a whole, seeing their family, and seeing society" as pediatrician. He also introduced his research work on an inherited metabolic disease, one of the most intractable illnesses still afflicting many people in the world. His lecture was concluded with his strong hopes of tackling various challenges posed in medical education today.

In 2020, MEDC played a central role in establishing Japan's first "Health Professions Education (Master's)" at the Graduate School of Medicine. In addition, the center increased the number of hosting S&W up to three times a year. Furthermore, MEDC journal, "Online Annual Report 2020" is set to be published in March 2021, which covers details of S&W. Under the pandemic, all three online S&W were successfully conducted in 2020. In this regard, people concerned have confirmed the feasibility of teleconferencing in the post-Covid world.

As a collaboration center for medical education, MEDC continues to hold S&W for promotion, development and improvement of medical staff education. The next 79th S&W is scheduled to be held at Gifu University for three days from Friday, May 21, to Sunday, May 23, 2021.
