River Cleanup Activities

On Wednesday, October 21, 2020, members of an environmental conservation club and the Environmental Affairs Office of Gifu University joined a river cleanup activity led by Associate Professor Takahiko Mukai (Faculty of Regional Studies). They picked up trash, removed weeds, etc. along the river starting from Bangaike Pond in the north of campus.

This on-campus cleanup activities kicked off in 2017 as a part of our "Environmental University" initiative. Its major objective is to mitigate negative impacts on indigenous species and get rid of trash for smooth water flow. On October 21, students and staff weeded overgrown alien waterweeds which were blocking the river flow, and picked up litter alongside the river.

"We would like to continue this cleanup activity to conserve beautiful natural environment on campus," said one of the students. We continue to engage in various environmentally-friendly activities to protect rich natural resources both on and off campus.
