Support for the University Hospital from the Members of Faculty of Engineering

Professor Minoru Sasaki (Intelligent Mechanical Engineering course, the Faculty of Engineering) and his lab members continue to support the University Hospital in its effort to promote COVID-19 infection prevention measures by the medical staff working for the Hospital.

The following are the members of Professor Sasaki's lab who joined an effort to assist the Hospital:

・Mr. Fumiya Kitano, Mr. Yuta Sasatake (1st year students of the Graduate School of Engineering)

・Mr. Takahide Kitamura, Mr. Kimihiko Iwata and Mr. Joji Imai (2nd year students of the Graduate School of Engineering)

The members offered support to the Hospital when they heard the Hospital staff started to make their own face shields to protect them from COVID-19 and in-house transmission. They decided to create face shields for them by using 3D printers they are using for robots or rocket parts at the lab. When accepted the shields, the Hospital staff expressed their deep appreciation to the students by saying, "We all are very grateful to the lab members for their kind support in our efforts to curb the spread of the infections." Gifu University remains united to support the Hospital medical staff who are working so hard to safeguard people's lives around the clock.

Mr. Fumiya Kitano
"When I heard from Professor Sasaki that the Hospital staff are having great difficulties due to a lack of face shields which they need to treat COVID-19 patients, we came up with an idea of making shields on our own. I am so glad to know that our shields are used by the staff and at the same time. We would like to express our deep appreciation to the medical staff for their great efforts to provide medical care for patients every day,"

Mr. Yuta Sasatake
"We had been thinking about what we can do as an engineering specialist to prevent a collapse of Japanese medical system due to COVID-19. I am so happy to have given an opportunity to contribute to the medical staff by utilizing our expertise on designing and manufacturing when I heard from Professor Sasaki the difficulties they are facing at the Hospital. I am also very grateful for a wonderful teamwork taking turns to make face shields around the clock."

Mr. Takahide Kitamura
"I feel so happy that I joined the team in making face shields for the medical staff at the Hospital. I sincerely wish for a strong, sustainable medical system in Japan, and an early end of COVID-19 infections."

Mr. Kimihiko Iwata
"When I heard the news of serious shortages of medical equipment owing to the pandemic, I was seeking an opportunity to assist medical staff in any way. When I heard the difficult situations at the Hospital from Professor Sasaki, we have decided to create face shields by using 3D printers in the lab. We have succeeded to produce them in a short period of time and presented them to the staff. We are also very fortunate that our expertise helped people asking for help."

Mr. Joji Imai
"I felt helpless when I saw people in desperate need and kept asking for help not to be infected with COVID-19 around the world. When I heard the difficult situations of the Hospital staff from Professor Sasaki, our team agreed to create a number of face shields for the medical staff by using 3D printers at the lab. I am so happy to see that our knowledge and expertise were proven useful to help people in need."
