Gifu University Intensive Lecture on Environment
The United Graduate School of Agricultural Science (UGSAS, Shizuoka University as a partner university), Gifu University hosted the intensive lecture, "Environment Made by Food, Food Made by Environment" at Gifu University Satellite Campus (Gifu City) on October 26, 2019. The major thrust of the lecture is to publicize UGSAS research activities to the public.
Lecturers explained two different types of food ingredients in simple terms. They are "food that may affect the intestines," and "food that may change by cultivation environment."
At the beginning of the lecture, Professor Masateru Senge (UGSAS Dean) gave his opening remarks. Professor Tomio Yabe (the Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences) then introduced three lecturers. The following are the themes and the names of the lecturers:
- "What is resistant starch contained in starchy food: contribute to the health of large intestines?" by Professor Takashi Hayakawa (Gifu University)
- "Breast milk and intestinal flora" by Professor Takane Katayama (Kyoto University), and
- "Healthy elements of oranges" by Professor Masaya Kato (Shizuoka University)
"What is the best rice for the large intestines?" "Why people pay much attention to bifidobacteria?" "What is the correlation between orange intake and health?" They were some of the questions raised from the participants (approximately 65 people) in Q & A session. The heated discussions between speakers and the audience continued for some time.
Many messages found in the questionnaires showed people's strong interests in the environment and their wishes to attend the next lecture.
