Open Lecture: United Graduate School of Drug Discovery and Medical Information Sciences
The United Graduate School of Drug Discovery and Medical Information Sciences held an open lecture at the Gifu University Satellite Campus on May 10, 2019. The theme of this lecture was; "United Graduate School of Drug Discovery and Medical Information Sciences in the Forefront - Ultimate manufacturing underpinning drug discovery."
The open lecture was made of two sessions. In the first session of general lectures, Professor Masato Ikeda (United Graduate School of Drug Discovery and Medical Information Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, Gifu University), and Professor Hironao Sajiki (Gifu Pharmaceutical University) gave addresses on their respective fields of research. They spoke about the prospects of medical resource development with the use of micro gels (nanofiber), solvent-free organic compounds synthesizing through solid state reactions, both of which are the cutting-edge technologies that have a great potential to create new medicine.
In the second session of special lectures, the following three professors made their research presentations:
- Professor Yoshinobu Baba, Graduate School of Engineering, Graduate School of Medicine, Nagoya University
- Professor Makoto Sawada, Research Institute of Environmental Medicine, Nagoya University
- Professor Kenichiro Itami, Graduate School of Science, Nagoya University
Their presentations gave the audience a deep insight into future challenges ahead and possible solutions utilizing the most advanced technologies such as nanotechnology cancer screening, quantification of pharmacokinetics through quantity analysis imaging, and synthesizing unknown organic compounds.
The room was close to capacity, filled with 121 people. People's interests in the lectures were represented by active opinion exchange at Q & A session. This open lecture became the first after Nagoya University and Gifu University concluded a basic agreement on the establishment of the "Tokai National University System (English name tentative)" and people in the room were listening to the presentations by the three invited professors from Nagoya University with great interest.
One of the goals of Gifu University's Future Vision toward 2025 is social contributions. With a great turnout of people who got a glimpse into our academic activities and latest success and achievements, the United Graduate School of Drug Discovery and Medical Information Sciences remains committed to taking on a challenge for an advancement of research and technologies.
