The United Graduate School of Agricultural Science (UGSAS) held a Sandwich Program Report Session and Completion Ceremony on March 18, 2019. Seventeen people attended both the session and ceremony.

The sandwich program, one of unique educational programs at Gifu University, focuses on strengthening cooperation between UGSAS and IC-GU 12* member universities. Under the program, UGSAS supervises doctoral course students coming from the member universities as special researchers for six months at Gifu University.

After an opening address by Professor Kohei Nakano who is in charge of the program, a total of four students made presentations on their research and life in Japan. They were: one from Assam University (India), two from Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IITG, India) and one from Bogor Agricultural University (Indonesia).

In the completion ceremony, Professor Nakano handed out an enrollment and program completion certificate to each student. The ceremony was also delivered to Shizuoka University via teleconference whereby active opinion exchange took place among speakers and the audience.

By participating in this program, international students were given many practical instructions on how to write research papers, whereas Japanese students deepened their understanding about cultures and traditions of home countries of international students. The program is expected to bolster Gifu University's endeavor to increase and expand international exchanges in the days to come.

Sandwich Program Detail

1. Professors offer instructions students in specialized research fields

2. Students are allowed to attend lectures at UGSAS (No credits are granted, but an enrollment certificate is issued)

3. Students can make research presentations at a report session

4. Program completion certificate is issued, and

5. In case publishing research papers drawn up during the students' enrollment in UGSAS, the papers are acknowledged to be co-authored by the student and his / her supervisor
