The 2nd Tokai・Hokuriku Bloc COC+ Promotion Coordinator Meeting and Chubu District COC Project Information Sharing Meeting 2018

Gifu University organized the Tokai・Hokuriku Bloc COC+ Promotion Coordinator Meeting at Gifu University Satellite University (Gifu City) on October 18, 2018. Convening of this meeting was decided at the Japan COC+ Promotion Coordinator Meeting held at Kochi University in March, 2017.

On October 18, seven universities in the Tokai・Hokuriku Bloc (University of Toyama, Kanazawa University, University of Fukui, Shinshu University, Gifu University, Shizuoka University and Mie University) where COC+ projects are undertaken, and four project participating universities (National Institute of Technology, Numazu College, Chubu University, Nihon Fukushi University and Nagoya Gakuin University) as well as Kochi University attended the meeting (Kochi University delegates were visiting Gifu University).

The purpose of the meeting is to find solutions to regional challenges in implementing COC+. In the 2nd meeting, the participants shared opinions over the progress in COC+ by individual universities, agreed with reporting the 2nd meeting conclusions at the Japan COC+ Promotion Coordinator Meeting next March, and also confirmed that Gifu University continues to organize the meeting from the next year onward.

This 2nd meeting was followed by the Chubu District COC Project Information Sharing Meeting. It has been hosted by Gifu University from 2013 and was attended by University of Toyama, University of Fukui, Shinshu University, Gifu University, Mie University, Chubu University, Nihon Fukushi University, Nagoya Gakuin University and Kanazawa Institute of Technology on October 18.

After the presentations by each university, the members reaffirmed the holding of the Chubu District COC Project Student Exchange Meeting within this fiscal year. Many questions were raised over the progress in individual projects and future plans in the subsequent general session. At the end of the meeting, people agreed on the continuation of the Chubu District COC Project Information Sharing Meeting from the next year onward.

* COC (Center of Community) projects: projects of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). Their objectives include reinforcing university functions to be a core of local communities where people, information and technology are brought together for problem-solving. To achieve these objectives, universities are expected to promote regional-based education, research and social contribution.

** COC+ (Center of Community Program for Local Revitalization) projects: projects of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). Their objectives include assembling people together to regions for revitalization by: - offering attractive job opportunities to students in collaboration with universities, local governments and businesses and, - supporting university's curriculum reform efforts necessary to cultivate personnel sought by regions.
