Gifu University United Graduate School of Agricultural Science (UGSAS: doctoral degree) held the 6th UGSAS-GU Roundtable on October 16, 2018. The Roundtable welcomed the new member universities to IC-GU12* (18 universities from 8 South and Southeast Asia regions). They are; Bangladesh Agricultural University (Bangladesh) and Mariano Marcos State University (the Philippines). The symposium was held at Juroku Plaza in front of JR Station and was attended by 58 people including vice-chancellors, coordinators from IC-GU12 member universities. Two universities' new membership ceremony was held and later active opinion exchanges about the current status of the double PhD program and the sandwich program unfolded. These two programs were created for international collaboration with the objective of securing high quality doctoral education in the field of agriculture.

On October 17 and 18, the 6th UGSAS-GU International Symposium on Animal Production and Conservation for Sustainable Development 2018 was held at the UGSAS building targeting young UGSAS graduates who are already playing a leading role in biology and agriculture in the international arena. A total of 112 people attended for two days. Five researchers gave keynote speeches on the themes of animal production and thirteen scholars both at home and abroad made their research presentations, which triggered deeper debates later on. People from the Faculty of Agriculture, Shizuoka University also joined the symposium via video conferencing, and they were engaging in lively discussions for some time (Shizuoka University is UGSAS partner university).

In the afternoon of October 18, a poster session opened co-hosted by our university's Rearing Program for Basin Water Environmental Leaders, which was attended by 61 students and staff. Twenty-six students made their presentations, of them four, were awarded the Best Poster Prize. IC-GU12*1： "International Consortium of Universities in South and Southeast Asia for the Doctoral Education in Agricultural Science and Biotechnology", which was created at the initiative of Gifu University.
