Farm Animal Chronic Infectious Disease Epidemiology Forum

"Farm Animal Chronic Infectious Disease Epidemiology Forum (the 5th Farm Animal Hygiene Technology Reviewing Session) was held at Gifu Prefectural Livestock Hygiene Service Center (within Gifu University) on March 19, 2018. This forum also served as a reporting session for three Gifu University professors with regard to the Japan Racing Association (JRA) livestock industry promotion project titled, "Countermeasures against proof-based farm animal chronic infectious diseases" carried out from 2016 to 2017. Associate Professor Kenji Oya and Associate Professor Yasuhiro Takashima who also work for GeFAH*, jointly conducted the JRA project through collaboration with multiple academic fields besides veterinary sciences and stockbreeding and local municipalities (such as Gifu Prefectural Livestock Hygiene Service Center) in order to address issues related to farm animal hygiene. Their research outcomes were published at academic papers, presented at the forum and carried at farm animal booklets for the promotion of livestock business in regions and across Japan.

GeFAH*(Education and Research Center for Food Animal Health, Gifu University): established in April 2015 in an effort to promote animal hygiene education and research in cooperation with Gifu Prefecture. Its major operations include: 1) animal hygiene education, 2) academic research on livestock diseases and 3) disease control and health promotion of livestock. GeFAH has Livestock Disease Control Division and Livestock Breeding and Hygiene Management Division.

Gifu Prefectural Livestock Hygiene Service Center and its affiliated research center were relocated into Gifu University in June 2017. Practical training rooms, laboratories and analysis rooms of GeFAH are all on the 3rd floor of the building where integration of education and research have been actively promoted these days.
