Gifu University student team of the Department of Civil Engineering, the Faculty of Engineering won first prize at Aesthetic Division of Asia Bridge Competition 2017 (July 15-22, 2017) held in Taiwan.

In the competition, each team presented its bridge model for screening at Building, Structure, Aesthetic, Presentation and General divisions. Gifu University student team narrowly missed first prize at General Division, but won first prize at Aesthetic Division for a simple structure, balance of color in painting and steel luster of the model. Gifu University team's model was ranked the "most beautiful bridge in Asia."

The team members and their supervisor visited the Office of President and reported their victory to President Hisataka Moriwaki on August 23, 2017. One of the students spoke about his impressions about the competition as follows; "Before the competition, it took 12 minutes and 30 seconds in assembling all pieces together, but after many trials and errors, it took only 5 minutes and 48 seconds in the competition. President Moriwaki congratulated them on the winning and said, "Creating a real bridge model must be a tough, but rewarding experience for all. Please hand down the "most beautiful bridge in Asia" technique to your juniors. I hope Gifu University student team keeps on joining the competition from next year onward.
