The 10th Anniversary of International Exchange Program between Chungbuk National University College of Medicine and Gifu University School of Medicine

The 10th Anniversary of International Exchange Program between Chungbuk National University College of Medicine and Gifu University School of Medicine was held at the hall of the School of Medicine, Gifu University on August 10, 2017. The program was created to promote medical student exchange between Chungbuk National University College of Medicine, Korea and Gifu University School of Medicine under the initiative of Professor Katsuji Shimizu (currently professor emeritus) of Gifu University and Professor Yong Min Kim of Chungbuk National University in 2008. Ever since, the two institutions alternately accepted and dispatched students every year. For the past 10 years, the number of students dispatched from each institution reached approximately 50 and if the number of all participants combined including teaching and administrative staff, it reaches over 250 people as of today.

In the ceremony, more than 40 people celebrated the 10th anniversary. They included Professor Kim, a founder of the program and Associate Professor Heui Je Bang from Chungbuk National University. From Gifu University, Professor Shinya Minatoguchi, Dean of the School of Medicine, Dr. Shinji Ogura, Director of the University Hospital, Professor Mitsuru Seishima, former dean of the School of Medicine, Professor Emeritus Takashi Inuzuka (also former dean), Professor Emeritus Shimizu (a program founder), and the students.

On behalf of the School of Medicine, Professor Minatoguchi gave a welcome speech. Next, Professor Kim delivered an address representing Chungbuk National University. Professor Shimizu later gave a keynote speech under the title of "Exchange 10 Years." He introduced the history of the program from its start in 2008 to present, and spoke about many significant successes brought about by the continuous, robust friendship between the two institutions.

The 10th anniversary events started on August 9 and ended on September 13, and most of these events were designed to accelerate active student exchange. They included the visit to Gifu Municipal Hospital, Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology and Inuyama Castle, and watching cormorant fishing on the Nagara River on a ship, all for Korean students to become familiar to Japanese technology and culture. Both Korean and Japanese students also participated in English Symposium, a photo session, etc. where they communicated with each other only in English.
