Gifu University Student Team wins at "C'SPACE2017 CanSat Competition"

Gifu University student team of the Intelligent Mechanical Engineering Course, the Faculty of Engineering won first prize at "C'SPACE2017 CanSat*1 Competition" held at Tarbes, France from July 15 to 22, 2017.

The team members parachuted a cansat down from 100 meters above ground. Their missions were to obtain air data from the falling cansat, and save, send the data to the ground-based station. They also captured the images of the falling cansat.

Gifu University team members and their supervisor reported their winning to President Hisataka Moriwaki at the Office of President on August 8, 2017.

One of the members said, "Through making a cansat, we have improved our skills of designing, processing, programming, English presentation and management skills as well as teamwork. We are so pleased with the winning, but must admit that accidents did occur and many problems came to surface during the competition. We are determined to improve our cansat and face the challenge next year." President Moriwaki replied, "I believe that your participation in the competition will become one of the most unforgettable memories in your life. I hope that Gifu University team continues to compete at the competition from the next year onward."

CanSat*1 : a very small and simple satellite but has similar functions with satellites and is maneuvered in the far distance from the human operators
