Summer School Program 2017 comes to an end

The Summer School Program 2017 started on June 28, came to an end with a Closing Ceremony and a Farewell Party on July 26.

The Summer School Program is a campus-wide program implemented under the supervision of the Gifu University Head Office for Glocalization (GHOGL), and the International Student Center is responsible for organizing and carrying out individual programs. Students from overseas take part in various events and activities besides Japanese language and culture classes (Noh and yukata, summer kimono studies). This year, pottery-making in Toki City, four-day homestay in Gujo City, observing cormorant fishing in Nagara River in Gifu Prefecture, and watching sumo bouts live in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture were the main programs offered to the students. The students who participated in the program 2017 were: one from Northern Kentucky University (USA), 2 from University of Technology, Sydney (Australia), 3 from Mokpo National University (South Korea), 5 from University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (China) and 7 from the National University of Malaysia, Malaysia (a total of 18).

On July 26 at the Closing Ceremony and Farewell Party, in addition to the Summer School students, members of Gujo Hachiman International Friendship Association (GIFA) who arranged the Gujo homestay and the host families were invited to the ceremonies. From Gifu University, President Hisataka Moriwaki, Dr. Masata Sugito, Executive Director for Planning, Evaluation and Fund, Dr. Fumiaki Suzuki, Executive Director for International Affairs and Public Relations (Director of GHOGL), Mr. Takaharu Yoshida, Auditor, student tutors who assisted the Summer School students, and teaching and administrative staff of the International Student Center attended the ceremonies. Everyone looked fully enjoying their last conversations in a friendly environment.

During the Farewell Party, Professor Koichi Morita, Director of the International Student Center gave an opening speech and introduced the members of the host families, which was followed by President Moriwaki's address. Next, Mr. Yukihiko Sumi, Chair of GIFA proposed a toast to a great success of this year's summer school program. At the Program Completion Certificate Awarding, Dr. Suzuki handed the certificates to the students one by one.

Later, the students (one speaker each to represent his/her university) introduced their wonderful memories about Gifu this summer in Japanese.
With the closing remarks by Dr. Suzuki, the Summer School Program 2017 officially came to an end. It is our strong hope that those who took part in the program this year will come back to Gifu University and see us in the near future.
