On June 28, 2016, Rector Aye Kyaw of Yadanabon University, Myanmar paid a courtesy call on President Hisataka Moriwaki at the President's Office. After his visit to Gifu University, Rector Aye observed some local companies within Aichi Prefecture.

The Science Departments of Yadanabon University and the Faculty of Engineering of Gifu University signed an Agreement on Faculty and Student Exchanges on December 16, 2014. Since the conclusion of this agreement, the two institutions have been actively sending and accepting students and researchers.

In the meeting with President Moriwaki, Rector Aye expressed his strong hope for future exchange with other faculties besides the Faculty of Engineering of Gifu University. In response, President Moriwaki said, "I hope that Rector Aye takes a closer look at our educational and research activities of all five faculties. I believe that Rector Aye's encounter with people in different faculties will increase opportunities to build a stronger partnership between the two universities in the foreseeable future.

After the meeting, Rector Aye inspected the laboratory of Professor Shuichi Nonomura, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and the laboratory of Professor Kazuma Nakazawa of the Faculty of Education who serves as a liaison for Yadanabon University.

At the Professor Nonomura's laboratory, Rector Aye met with Associate Professor Yin Maung Maung of Mandalay University, another Gifu University's overseas partner university in Myanmar. As a visiting researcher, Associate Professor Yin Maung Maung has been engaged in a research project of the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) since December last year. Rector Aye also talked with a graduate student of Yadanabon University who is studying at Gifu University.

At the Professor Nakazawa's laboratory, Rector Aye held some talks with four graduate students of Yadanabon University and Mandalay University. He wrapped up his visit by observing some classes.

It is believed that the meeting with President Moriwaki, talks with the students from Myanmar and the campus tour all helped Rector Aye to strengthen friendly ties between Gifu University and Yadanabon University.
