Summer School Program 2015:Luncheon Meeting with the University's Board Members

On July 9, the International Student Center held a Luncheon Meeting at the Center's Exchange Lounge. The purpose of this meeting is to provide an opportunity for the summer school students and the University board members to get to know well with each other. About forty people joined the meeting and the participating board members were:

Dr. Masata Sugito, Executive Director for Planning, Evaluation & Fund,
Dr. Satoshi Ema, Executive Director for Academic & Affiliated School Affairs,
Dr. Hideto Fukushi, Executive Director for Academic Research & Information,
Dr. Fumiaki Suzuki, Executive Director for International Affairs & Public Relations,
Mr. Masaki Yokoyama, Executive Director for General Affairs & Finance,
Mr. Takaharu Yoshida, Auditor,
Professor Masako Hayashi, Vice President for the Promotion of Gender Equality & Diversity,
Dr. Zhigang Wang, Vice President for Industry-Government-Academia Collaboration

The summer school students who took part in the meeting were: seventeen students from Lund University, Sweden, two from Northern Kentucky University, the United States, three from Mokpo National University, South Korea. The staff of the Center also took part in the meeting.
First, Associate Professor Momoko Tsuchiya, who is a chief coordinator of the summer school program, presented a program outline, which was followed by self-introductions of the board members. President Moriwaki then, made a speech on behalf of the board members.
After the President's speech, the students were divided into small groups to dine with the board members. At first, the students looked a little nervous, but casual questions from the board members and informal conversations with them helped the students become relaxed little by little. At the end of the meeting, all the participants truly enjoyed talking in Japanese.

To wrap up the meeting, Mr. Györffy, Elöd from Lund University, Ms. Holcomb Chelsea Elizabeth from Northern Kentucky University and Ms. Jeong Hwayeon from Mokpo National University expressed their appreciation for the meeting in Japanese. The meeting ended with a great success.

For the University's board members, this meeting became a valuable opportunity to deepen their understanding about the summer school program and to interact with the students. For the students, the meeting was one of a few occasions to directly come into contact with the board members.
