Delegation from Northern Kentucky University Visits Gifu University
Ms. Sue Ott Rowlands, Provost and Executive Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, and Dr. François Le Roy, Executive Director of the International Education Center of Northern Kentucky University, visited Gifu University on Friday, March 6th, 2015. Northern Kentucky University and Gifu University concluded an agreement on student and faculty exchanges on October 1st, 1990 and bilateral exchanges between the two universities have been thriving through study abroad and summer school programs ever since. Ms. Rowlands was making her first official visit to Gifu University, but Dr. Le Roy delivered a speech here entitled "Greater Cincinnati and Japan" in November 2012. The major objectives of their visit to Gifu University this time were to renew the partnership agreement for another five years until October 1st, 2020 and to discuss student exchange programs. Firstly, Ms. Rowlands and Dr. Le Roy made a courtesy visit to the office of Dr. Fumiaki Suzuki, Executive Director and Vice President for International Affairs and Public Relations. After greetings were exchanged, Ms. Rowlands and Dr. Suzuki signed the agreement papers. After meeting with Dr. Suzuki, the two delegates visited the Faculty of Education and had a lively conversation with five students who have studied, or are going to study, at Northern Kentucky University. They also spoke with two students from Northern Kentucky University who are currently enrolled at Gifu University. Ms. Ott Rowlands and Dr. Le Roy later visited the office of Professor Naotake Iketani, Dean of the Faculty of Education, where they discussed the facilitation of student and faculty exchanges. This discussion was joined by Professor Toru Tatsumi, the coordinator of the exchange program. In addition, the two delegates had a chance to talk with Associate Professor Momoko Tsuchiya of the International Student Center about the implementation of summer school programs (the acceptance of international students) during their visit.
