Excursion to Toki City (2014 Summer School Program)

In our second Japanese culture experience program for 2014 summer school, 17 summer school students went on an excursion to Toki City with Associate Professor Satoshi Iwamoto of the Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences, and 7 international students from Japanese Language & Culture Studies course, on Monday afternoon, June 23.
In the pottery class held at Tokiminoyaki Kaido Roadside Station "Donburi Bowl Hall", summer school students experienced throwing a mug and bowl on a potter's wheel and painting on them. Participating students nicely painted their favorite kanji or cartoon characters on the unglazed mug and bowl.
Students listened to the advice from the instructor and tried hard to make a tea cup and bowl (or plate) on a potter's wheel although they were struggling with their first-time use of the wheel. These student artworks are going to be displayed at the Toki Ceramics Festival which will be held in autumn.
4 students from Mokpo National University (South Korea) join our summer school program on June 25. By having more students, our summer school activities will become more joyous and the further expansion of exchanges between students is expected.
The next activity of summer school is the overnight trip to Kamikochi on Thursday, July 3.
