University of Ghana Delegation Meets President Moriwaki
Provost Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu and Associate Professor Boniface B. Kayang of College of Basic and Applied Sciences, University of Ghana visited the Office of President and met President Hisataka Moriwaki on Friday, May 29th, 2015. Dr. Hideto Fukushi, Executive Director for Academic Research and Information, Dr. Fumiaki Suzuki, Executive Director for International Affairs and Public Relations, Associate Professor Kenji Oya of the Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences and Ms. Junko Sugaya, Director of International Planning Division joined the meeting. University of Ghana is the oldest and largest public university in Republic of Ghana. It is located in Legon, northeast of Accra, Capital of Ghana. The number of students enrolled is approximately 40,000 today. Exchanges between University of Ghana and Gifu University began when some of the former students of Gifu University started to teach at University of Ghana after completed their doctorates at Gifu University. Associate Professor Boniface B Kayang is one of them. He graduated from the United Graduate School of Agricultural Science in 2002. Through his good offices, the teaching staff of the Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences, Gifu University and College of Basic and Applied Sciences, University of Ghana are jointly engaged in research activities concerning wildlife, biology of farm animals and infectious diseases in African continent. To further accelerate their research activities, the officials of both faculties are preparing for conclusion of faculty-level agreement. In the meeting with the President, they talked about possible collaborations of research on food production, preservation, management and transportation of grasscutter (alias: greater cane rat) meat, a staple protein source for people in Ghana. It is hoped that conclusion of faculty-level agreement between University of Ghana and Gifu University will further facilitate active exchanges between the two institutions in the years to come.
