GU Student Team Won the Highest Award at the 11th CAMP Hackathon

The Gifu University (GU) student team won the highest award at the "11th CAMP Hackathon" held on Saturday, November 4 and Sunday, November 5, 2023.

The word "hackathon" is a portmanteau of the words: "hack" and "marathon," where "hack" is used in the sense of exploratory programming. It is an event, where people engage in rapid and collaborative engineering such as software engineering over a short period of time. The goal of a hackathon is to create functioning software-engineering or hardware by the end of the event.

The 11th CAMP Hackathon was attended by 87 students from 30 teams, who are aiming to become an engineer in the future. They presented their software engineering work using computer programming.

The GU student team has developed an "AI zunda Web" by using the latest AI technology. "AI zunda Web" software can change people's voices to the ones of popular characters appearing on the website. Conventional voice changing software had required users to handle complex operations and add configuring settings, but "AI zunda Web" cleared such hurdles and it can work smoothly on the website.

After the announcement of the GU student team's victory, Mr. NAKAO Motoki, a leader of the team made the following comment: "We are very glad that we won the highest award at the latest hackathon competition. We cleared our goals by working together with all the team members. We continue to work on developing new software together."

The GU student team is already gearing up to win at a higher-level of hackathon competition held on Saturday, December 16, 2023. GU continues to support students who are striving to materialize new ideas, increase their technical skills, and take up new challenges.
