On Wednesday, June 21, 2023, the Medical Education Development Center (MEDC) and the Health Administration Center at Gifu University co-hosted a special lecture titled "The Future of Healthcare Education and Experimental Learning" at the Memorial Hall, the School of Medicine.

Dr. Haru Okuda, who graduated from a medical school in the United States, was the guest speaker at this lecture. After graduation, he pursued a career in the field of emergency and critical care medicine. Recognizing the significance of quality improvement for medical professionals and the importance of teamwork, Dr. Okuda has played a pivotal role in the field of medical simulation education. In addition, he is an immediate-past president of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) and is a prominent specialist in the field. Dr. Okuda visited Gifu University as the CEO (Chief Executive Officer) and Executive Director of HPCC (Health Professions Conferencing Corporation) CAMLS (Center of Advanced Medical Learning and Simulation, AVP (Associate Vice President), University of South Florida (USF) HEALTH IPEP (Inter-Professional Education and Practice). It is one of the world's largest, free-standing simulation facilities dedicated exclusively to training of healthcare professionals. Notably, Gifu University and USF established an exchange agreement in December 2020 at the university level. On June 21, Dr. Okuda shared his insights regarding the reality of CALMS, explaining its status as the most advanced training site for medical professionals. Students of the School of Medicine, academic and administrative staff, and members of the University Hospital attended the lecture both in person and online. In addition to the lecture, Dr. Okuda engaged in productive conversations with members of the MEDC, the Center for Regional Medicine, and representatives of the Department of Surgical Oncology and the Advanced Critical Care Center. It is expected that Dr. Okuda's latest visit to Gifu University will further enhance the active exchange between the two universities.
