The members of Gifu University celebrated the 74th anniversary of the founding of Gifu University on Thursday, June 1, 2023. A series of celebrations were conducted at the university auditorium with the participation of approximately 150 people from inside and outside of campus. The celebration events were held almost on the same level with those of pre-pandemic times after four years of scaled-down celebrations due to the pandemic. The events started with the orchestra performance, which was followed by presentations of letter of appreciation, awarding the title of professor emeritus, and the title of industry-academic collaboration associate professor and others.

In the president's report, President YOSHIDA Kazuhiro highlighted Gifu University's strong advantage in research activities, state of industry-academia-government collaboration and achievements in regional revitalization efforts. He also expressed his strong determination to enhance Gifu University's role as an academic hub for the community.

In the 55th Gifu University Forum, the key note speech was delivered by Professor KAZAMA Takashi from the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Chukyo University (Aichi Prefecture) under the title, "DEIB¹ Declaration: Present and Future of Gifu University." Professor Kazama spoke about the current situations and future challenges for Gifu University's promotion of diversity based on various survey results. He was later joined by four panelists from Gifu University on stage. They are: Professor Lim Lee Wah (from the Faculty of Engineering), Associate Professor YAMANE Kyoko (from the Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences), Ms. KATO Minori (from the Faculty of Regional Studies) and Ms. MATSUBARA Marie (a graduate of the Faculty of Education). Professor Kazama and four panelists shared their own experiences and exchange ideas with regard to the given theme, "Think about DEIB."
