The Gifu Field Science Center, the Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences, Gifu University won the Award for Excellence in the division of notice and work piece of the Gero City Landscape Prize.

The Gero City Landscape Prize honors owners, designers and architects of buildings, creators of outdoors notices, PR materials and others which are recognized to protect, preserve and create beautiful landscapes in Gero City (Gifu Prefecture). The signpost erected at the entrance to the Kuraiyama Forest (forest research and training site of Gifu University, located at Gero City) was highly praised by Gero City for its distinctive presence and impacts attributed to the unique materials which are keeping a perfect harmony with the environment.

The winning signpost was created and erected on a rock by two engineers, Mr. TSUZUKU Akinori and Mr. AOKI Masaya of Gifu University. They are assigned to the Kuraiyama Forest and engage in the promotion of lumber processing technologies. The signpost was made from the stump of an approximately 300-year old Japanese cypress tree cut at the forest.

The Kuraiyama Forest is located at Yamanokuchi, Hagiwara Town, Gero City which offers people an opportunity to receive basic training for field sciences and serves as a venue for forest studies in the form of open lectures and "Nature Classes" for elementary school students. Open lectures at the Kuraiyama Forest are scheduled in spring, autumn and winter in 2023. We are looking forward to welcoming your participation in the lectures.
