The Medical Education Development Center (MEDC), Gifu University co-hosted "The 80th Online Medical Education Seminar & Workshop" with Seirei Hamamatsu General Hospital (Shizuoka Prefecture) on Saturday, November 13 and Sunday, November 14, 2021. A total of 156 participants and lecturers attended seven virtual workshops and webinar.

In the workshops, participants discussed and shared their thoughts on the following themes: "Coordination skills among different fields/departments in cancer treatments" "Gender bias in medical education and identities of medical doctors," and "Realities of ICT." In the first theme, participants actively exchanged their opinions about how to enhance coordination skills which are indispensable to facilitate collaboration among different fields/departments in providing cancer treatments. These skills are particularly important because medical technologies today are highly advanced, which makes it difficult for medical experts to work as a team. By participating in coordination skill workshops, participants learned their best ways of communications and made their presentations about this theme by groups.

In webinar, Dr. Yoichiro Honma from Seirei Hamamatsu General Hospital delivered a speech titled, "Now you can call yourself "medical education YouTuber"?" He spoke about his experiences of launching YouTube channel for patients of Seirei Hamamatsu General Hospital, and introduced how to take advantage of this digital platform for patients. "In this day and age when we are constantly witnessing rapid progress in communication technologies, we can provide necessary information via YouTube for every viewer regardless of their ages, etc. It also helps us promote our hospital branding and contribute to our PR activities." said Dr. Honma.

As a collaboration center for medical education, Gifu University Medical Education Development Center holds a medical education seminar and workshop three times a year for promotion, development and improvement of medical staff education in Japan.

The next 81st Online Medical Education Seminar & Workshop will be held on Saturday, January 22 and Sunday, January 23, 2022.
